Our Czech children club in Barnes started last autumn. The idea behind the whole concept was creating an active circle of Czech-English families who are raising their children bilingually. We wanted to establish a place where parents can meet other like-minded parents and children can learn Czech during creative activities.
We could not find more beautiful place than Velehrad in leafy Barnes. Every Sunday during school terms, parents can enjoy tea and coffee whilst their children learn how to speak, read, count, and sing in Czech. We run three groups for children from 3 to 8. The smallest children stay with their parents during the class and we all together play games, have fun and speak Czech. The older ones can already read and write in English so we encourage them to use these skills in Czech. Every week has a different topic therefore children increase their vocabulary step by step every Sunday.
Our club is quickly growing and we are planning to open a group for little babies and a music class. Not only children want to learn, but also some parents has shown their interest in Czech lessons, therefore we will open classes for parents too.
